We have the innate ability to maintain good health if we establish the optimal environment for healing.” What did Dr. Joel Fuhrman mean when he said this?
Our body has the amazing ability to fight disease and heal itself. To do so, our body must be given the proper nutrients so it can work at its optimal level to fight disease and heal. As hard as the body may try, it cannot work to its optimal level to generate good health when it is fed fast foods, processed foods, or foods with refined carbohydrates (white flour, white rice, pasta, sugar, and pastries to name a few). We wouldn’t put diesel fuel in a car that was not designed to burn diesel fuel, why would we put food in our body that was not designed to give us optimal health?
Maintaining good health means being healthy by choice, not by chance. We can have good health by giving our body the foods it was designed to metabolize and have a robust defense system against disease.
Choose to eat more whole foods including vegetables and fruit. This is easy, particularly during the summer months when we can visit one of the many farmer markets in the area.
Look for whole grain breads and pastas, and brown rice. They provide needed nutrients and fiber. When we eat more fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and beans and legumes, our body will have the nutrition it needs to provide its best defense system against disease and promote healing. Health is not luck. We need to give it the tools it needs to do its amazing work.
