CHIP Graduates

  • "I have lost 25 pounds now all together and am off my lantus insulin, 47 units daily, and no more regular sliding scale insulin. Thanks again for all you have done to impact my life in a positive way, and for giving me the knowledge to make the right choices for myself and for my health! I am a lot healthier today than I was when we first met."
    - Sherry Kok, Director of Nursing (IL)
  • "The impact of following the CHIP lifestyle on my health has been astounding. I actually feel like a brand-new person. Several of my health conditions (sleep apnea, acid reflux, depression) have markedly improved. With supervision from my physician, I am now off my anti-depressants, I lost some pounds, and reflux has become non-episodic beginning with week 2 of the CHIP program.  I now sleep well. I am well rested when I wake up. I no longer "graze" thoughout the day (looking for comfort). And I am overjoyed. CHIP has turned my life around."                              - Wendy Hankins (TN)

  • "The more I learn about the CHIP concept and its clinical results, the more I am impressed. It is a fantastically practical way to capture the essence of health education and making a big difference in the lives of many."

              - Darren Morton, PhD, Senior Lecturer, Faculty of Education, Avondale College (AUS)

  • "I graduated from the 2005 CHIP program in Boring, OR. Monte and I changed our diet significantly, and my diabetes improved and my pancreatic attacks ceased. Last year, I took another stab at improving my lifestyle. I set a goal of walking across Oregon in 25 days! It was hard at first. I started slowly in my driveway. But by March of this year, I was into it. On May 31 I started my Across Oregon Walk at The Dalles (OR/WA border). I walked 5 days a week for 6 hours a day averaging 13 to 14 miles a day. And on July 1 at 10 AM I crossed the OR/CA border! It was a wonderful experience. I will treasure the memories. And in the process, I also went from a size 14 to a size 8. And I have begun a little jogging."

                       --Beth Nogle, Oregon

  • "Based on documented, sound nutritional practices, this approach is for anyone who wants to improve their lifestyle and well-being. Following the principles of this program helped me lose weight, feel better, and have more confidence in my health."
    - Peg Haffey, 3rd Grade Teacher (IL)

  • "CHIP changed our lifestyle. We feel healthy, we eat healthy. I wish all of the doctors would be aware of it. I would highly recommend it. I don't see why doctors don't recommend it more"
    - Mark Corke, Dentist (FL)

  • "I lost 52 lbs., cholesterol dropped 50 points, and I have more energy than I can remember. Thank you for CHIP."
    - Lynda Kettering
  • "My wife (61 yr) and I (63 yr)  recently completed the four week Coronary Health Improvement Project (CHIP) in Colorado Springs.  In four short weeks my wife lost 10 pounds, and I lost 15 pounds coupled with my cholesterol drop of 63 points. We were never hungry; and we were able to eat as much as we wanted while losing weight and lowering cholesterol."
                  - 2 Happy CHIPpers from Colorado Springs

  • ULCERATIVE COLITIS: The Turn-Around!  My wife has battled Ulcerative Colitis since 2004 with steroids and other powerful drugs, until we found the answer. Now Rachel has been completely well for the last 18 months taking no medications. Known as an autoimmune disease similar to Crohn’s Disease, Ulcerative Colitis progressively involves colon bleeding, cancer risk after some 10 years, possible colon removal  and a life that is centered upon one issue all the time: the colon. Realizing the seriousness of this disease in 2006, and not finding any substantive answers, we became interested in health education and lifestyle medicine as so powerfully represented by the CHIP program with its emphasis on whole foods. By focusing increasingly on fresh fruits and vegetables and becoming certified as CHIP directors, we made terrific improvements as a family. Our children love Dr. Diehl and his CHIP program. And Rachel has been completely well for the last 18 months. We thank God that we found the answer.

    --Mike Weaver  Harrisonburg VA

"Ulcerative Colitis is an autoimmune disease with an up-regulated inflammatory response.  We have had several cases, similar to the one described above, that have done quite well by following some of the principles of the CHIP program under medical supervision."

Physicians and Public Policy Leaders

  • "If a cost-efficient program like CHIP were expanded across the country, it could reduce the risk of heart disease (and diabetes, obesity, and cancer) in millions of people."
    - Michael F. Jacobson, PhD, Executive Director
Center for Science in the Public Interest
  • Good News: Kidney Disease Turn-around!  "I had recommended to Ron and his wife that they attend the next CHIP program in our Oregon town. Being quite discouraged with his diabetic neuropathy, overweight, and renal failure, he took me up on it and enrolled in the April/May CHIP program. Before the end of the 4-week program, his insulin requirements were dropping and at the first CHIP alumni meeting, he confided to me. 'Because of my improvements in my kidney function, my doctor has taken me off the kidney transplant list!'  Three months after starting the program, at the next alumni meeting, he told me: 'I'm no longer taking  insulin injections since my blood sugars are normal and my neuropathy is resolving. And I have lost more than 40 pounds of excess weight.' "A third-year medical student attended that alumni session to see what CHIP was all about. She wanted to interview some of our participants. After talking to Ron, she was quite impressed and said, 'I think this guy is the poster child for the program.'"        --Greg Saunders, MD, FACS, MPH (and Kathy Saunders, MS, MPH, RD)
  • CHIP has the tools which allows a workable lifestyle medicine approach to health that many doctors and medical students never learn. We have been implementing the CHIP system with our medical students with great success and are considering this training on a on-going basis."
    - Wayne Dysinger, MD, MPH, Chairman Dept. of Preventive Medicine
Loma Linda University School of Medicine (CA)

  • "When I first heard about CHIP through the glowing testimonials of others I was skeptical. But, after holding three CHIP programs in our community, I was amazed at how the success of the program matched and exceeded the testimonials I saw on the DVDs. The CHIP program really works!"
    - Simon E. Witter, MD, Family Practice Physician (FL)

  • "The CHIP (Complete Health Improvement Program) has been one of the best discoveries I have made as a primary care doctor trying to deal with the epidemic of lifestyle diseases I face every day in my family practice (these include coronary vessel disease and angina, diabetes, hypertension, osteoporosis, gastric reflux, arthritis, sleep apnoea and obesity). CHIP has become a most effective way of dealing with these diseases with amazing results. It also has improved the well-being and quality of health for those who have embraced its principles and benefits have even been experienced by those over 75 yrs of age."
    - Dr W T Hurlow, Medical Director Southcare Medical Centre

  • "I have been practicing Preventive Medicine for over 35 years. And yet the clinical benefits of lifestyle and nutrition, and even my own gaps in knowledge, hit home to me in a powerful and personal way this month as my wife and I graduated from the Complete Health Improvement Program (CHIP) at Loma Linda University. I learned how excess protein may actually contribute to heart disease, osteoporosis and cancer. I learned how much of the diabetes, hypertension and coronary artery disease could actually be reversed through this lifestyle medicine approach. I saw the published research. And I saw my classmates with lower weights, blood pressures, cholesterol and blood sugars. And I heard their stories of how their personal MDs had to lower their medications and sometimes even eliminate them. And that all in 4 weeks of CHIP!"
